Summary of activities

Nexus Care is a not for profit organisation passionate about relieving poverty and distress in our community. We exist to help break the poverty cycle through people-focused and evidence based programs targeting three main areas: food and financial relief, family and youth mentoring, and community connections. In 2017-2018 and ongoing, Nexus Care delivers the following programs: 1. Fresh Start Program, relieving hunger for vulnerable kids, families and individuals. In doing we provide A. nutritious food parcels with supplementary nutrition education and budgeting materials. B. Weekly nutritious school breakfast programs at five schools. C. Fortnightly cooking classes for people to develop skills in creating nutritious and budget-friendly meals. 2. Equip adults and youth with vital life skills including budgeting, resilience, and community dance classes. 3. COACH family and youth mentoring program. Volunteer mentors were trained and connected with families and young people to assist in terms of relieving poverty and helping people experiencing hardship to achieve personal goals. 4. Relieve helplessness, loneliness, and distress in our community by creating meaningful opportunities for connection and participation such as community morning teas, volunteering opportunities, and more. 5. Emergency Relief Program providing direct financial contributions to people in or at risk of financial crisis. Areas we have contributed to for individuals are fuel vouchers, rent, pharmaceutical vouchers, and utility bills.
