Summary of activities
- The Bridging the Gap Foundation Limited has been established through the Menzies School of
Health Research (Menzies) and Charles Darwin University (CDU) to fund research in
health and education in order to address one of Australia’s most urgent issues: the gap
between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians’ health and education
opportunities and outcomes.
- We operated the National Indigenous Preventative Health & Educational Program (NIPHEP), which is a comprehensive sport and health program aiming to improve remote health and education in the Northern Territory.
- The NIPHEP is a new partnership between Menzies School of Health Research and John Moriarty Football and will use Bridging the Gap Foundation’s HealthLab program to engage with young people in remote communities to measure and better understand risk factors for chronic diseases. The program is focused on kids aged 5-16 years of age and commenced in 2019. It also aims to boost school attendance through interaction with sport, health and education. https://btgfoundation.com.au/niphep.html
- We operated the Indi Kindi program which supports young First Australian children’s health and wellbeing by focusing on their strengths to improve their social, literacy and numeracy skills and help them better prepare for school.
- Indi Kindi takes a unique approach to teach young children in a culturally relevant way, using walking classrooms to boost children’s positive behaviour, engagement and performance.
