Description of charity’s activities and outcomes
SAVEM began 2015 with an 8 week Response to the Sampson Flat bushfire in SA. This generated a great deal of work for SAVEM volunteers, including a roster of 70 volunteers during the 8 week response. Throughout the year SAVEM carried out a program of activities including resource generation, volunteer personnel training, and training with other emergency agencies. Activations in the 2015/16 bushfire season began with the Kyeema fire, and then the Pinery fire. SAVEM continued in its public outreach with numerous speaking engagements to community and Emergency Services groups. SAVEM took part in multi-agency training events to strengthen and improve Emergency response in South Australia, as well as running the annual SAVEM Exercise for volunteers pre bushfire season. Donated funds have gone to specific projects such as the Fireground Safety DVD nearing completion and a thermal imaging camera. A second response vehicle has been purchased and will be commissioned soon. Training courses for volunteers included a darting course for use of a darting firearm to be delivered early in 2016.
