Description of charity's activities and outcomes
The Australia Cambodia Foundation is the registered DGR charity in Australia for Sunrise Cambodia. Funds raised through The Australia Cambodia Foundation are applied to projects within Cambodia that aim to break the cycle of poverty and improve lives for impoverished children. These projects are developed in full consultation with communities with which we work and have the purpose to raise educational standards, improve health and strengthen economic community development. The bulk of our funds are spread across four main project areas:1. Residential care: the direct and associated costs of housing, feeding, clothing and educating over 100 children in full-time residential care, as well as the task of repatriating children back to safe families and communities where appropriate.2. Education and sport: Sunrise Cambodia provides free education for full-time residential care students as well as over 1000 other children from surrounding impoverished villages. This includes regular primary to high school education, pre school for children under 6 while their parents are at work, extra curricular classes in English, art and computers and support for vocational training. All our education facilities also integrate strong sports programs as this has been shown to positively affect school attendance for primary and high school students.3. Health clinic: providing free healthcare for communities surrounding the Sunrise Cambodia facilities including checkups, dentistry, pharmaceutical needs and health and sanitation workshops with health professionals.4. Community development: providing emergency support, health care, counselling and mentoring and housing and sanitation to some of the poorest families and communities in Cambodia. This projects, run side by side, actively help to achieve The Australia Cambodia Foundation's purpose of breaking the cycle of poverty and transforming the lives of impoverished children and communities in Cambodia.
