Description of charity's activities and outcomes
Phoenix House Youth Services (PHYS) provides early intervention and support services for young people living in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney and who meet the criteria for the organisations support. PHYS provides information, case management and counselling, life and social skills, pre-employment preparation, flexible and individualised education and other support to young people who are either homeless, at risk of homelessness and/or are becoming disengaged from school and mainstream society generally. The support provided is client directed and based on significant family/care consultation. Clients are usually referred by local schools, youth centres, other Homelessness services, as well as other appropriate community organisations. In effect, PHYS has transformed from a Youth Service providing accommodation and support for local youth to an innovative counselling, support and education service. The recent growth in referrals for PHYS service offerings has spurred a growth strategy to increase service offerings and reach through partnerships and co-locating with other community organisations.PHYS currently offers a range of programs that include the following. Learn Ready: A transition program, in partnership with North Sydney TAFE that provides flexible learning to Certificate II level.Route 10: Available for graduates of the Learn Ready program and other youth in a similar position who are assisted to obtain the relevant academic foundation to go beyond the Year 10 education level.Girls programIndustry based programs with job attachmentMentoring and Work Experience Youth and Family CounsellingPlease see Annual Report for further information:http://www.phoenixhouse.org.au
