Description of charity's activities and outcomes
* We established Gradient Institute as a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee (Feb 2019), developed the strategy for the organisation and its research and prepared for the start of operations in July 2019.
* We undertook preliminary technical research into the development of ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. More:
* We prepared education material to prepare for providing training and education to people responsible for the technical, managerial, as well as policy and decision-making aspects of AI-based decision systems.

Changes planned
* We commenced formal operations in July 2019.
* We will undertake scientific research in collaboration with universities and other research institutions to advance a science of ethics for AI, and share the findings across the academic community through publications and presentations.
* We will provide training and education to people responsible for the technical, managerial, as well as policy and decision-making aspects of AI-based decision systems.
* We will evaluate, design, implement and measure AI systems to check them against ethical goals.
* We will promote ethical AI approaches to technical and general audiences.
* We will provide input into government policy on AI to ensure that it considers ethical implications of AI.
