Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
Phoenix House Youth Services (PHYS) provides early intervention and support services for disengaged young people living in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney who need an alternative education, training and employment approach to meet their aspirations.
PHYS provides education and training with wraparound support of case management and counselling, life and social skills,, pre-employment preparation, to help young people realise their full potential.
Young people who come to PHYS are often homeless, at risk of homelessness and/or are becoming disengaged from school and mainstream society generally. The support provided is client directed and based on significant family/care consultation. Clients are usually referred by local schools, youth centres, other Homelessness services, as well as other appropriate community organisations. T
The recent growth in referrals for PHYS service offerings has spurred a growth strategy to increase service offerings and reach through partnerships and co-locating with other community organisations. PHYS currently offers a range of programs that include the following:
• Learn Ready: A transition vocational program, in partnership with North Sydney TAFE that provides flexible learning to Certificate II level and a Study Support program to assist young people obtain the relevant academic foundation from for School Yrs 7-12.
• Work Ready program - Industry based programs with pre-employment support, coaching and industry training with job attachment.
• Life Ready program - building resilience and life skills.
