Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
2016 was a magnificent year for Beard Season. In our mission to provide action and awareness in the fight against melanoma - it was one of the best. Some of the highlights include:The #BeardSeasonSkincheck Tent...Working with qualified skin cancer specialists, we hosted multiple free skin check sessions around Australia. These pop-up events targeted people in the highest risk category for skin cancer and melanoma. Namely, men aged 18-45 who spend a lot of time in the sun, for work and recreation. As well as some with brand partners to build awareness and audience. The most notable were The Australian Open of Surfing at Manly Beach and the Wes Bonny Memorial AFL game at John XXIII College in Canberra. Our #BeardSeasonAmbassadors...We brought a lot of big names on board in 2016. People who grew their beards for winter and used them to spread the word about the importance of having a #BeardSeasonSkincheck. Names include 6 time world champion surfer Thomas Victor Carroll, Australian acting legend Jack Thompson A.O, and Australian music legends The Beards. These big names helped us recruit hundreds, if not thousands of people around Australia and indeed the world who committed to seeing their GP or dermatologist for a skin check - using their beards to encourage their friends and family to do the same. Our #BeardSeasonVictories...This is our most important KPI, people who have written in saying they had a #BeardSeasonSkincheck and found something which could have killed them were it not for our friendly, furry advice. These people come from all walks of life and from all over the world. Men, women, children and even pets have found suss looking spots because of our efforts. Making a huge impact in ways we will never fully fathom. Simply type in this hashtag to social media for an idea of what were talking about. Our Coverage... We had a lot of great PR in 2016. One in particular on the Today Show was voted as one of the greatest moments in Australian TV history. One of the highlights of Lisa Wilkinsons illustrious career. Alongside this, we encouraged our ambassadors to generate media with their local newspapers, radio stations and social media groups. Taking Beard Season to thousands more people than we anticipated. We even had a donation from the Orange City Rugby Club at the end of their season which we didnt even know about until it came in. Meaning everyone is taking the Beard Season concept and making it their own. We would like to thank all our supporters who purchased our merchandise, came to our events, hosted your own and made donations. Every cent was used with careful efficiency to build awareness around this horrible health issue, encourage action to fight it, and build a community of highly engaged and empowered people - eager to use their beards to save lives!
