Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
Our PurposeTo provide practical support to young people caring for a family member with a chronic illness or disability that is based on their needs and the needs of their family.Our ActivitiesSI alleviates the financial disadvantage and social isolation experienced by young carers in Eastern Sydney.Our OutcomesSI has been recognised and registered as a charity by the ACNC since November 2014. SI was created by like-minded people who recognised the needs of young people providing care, and had previously worked directly with carers, young carers, and their families.SI believe that young people should be supported in their carer role, and that this support is of benefit to the entire family, including the person needing care.By providing practical support services, SI shine a light on the experiences of young carers who often provide care with little or no support.In 2016:- A successful launch fundraiser was held- SI completed their website, due to go live in March 2017. The website will enable young carers, their families and service providers to understand the types of services that are available from SI and to make referrals. - Pro-bono agreements in the finance, legal and interior design industry were secured. - The Board met quarterly to:Review progress against the business planMonitor the financial stability of the organisation, and Maintain accountability to relevant stakeholders.
