Description of charity's activities and outcomes
The Alternative Technology Association (ATA) is a not-for-profit organisation that enables, represents and inspires people to live sustainably in their homes and communities. Established in 1980, the ATA provides expert, independent advice on sustainable solutions for the home to households, government and industry.We have helped thousands of households save money, reduce their environmental footprint and make their homes more comfortable. ATA is well respected in our sector for our technical expertise, communications capacity and an informed membership.The ATA delivers in four main areas:Membership services. ATA has 14 active branches across Australia and over 6000 members who are actively creating a sustainable future in their own homes and communities. The ATA provides an online and over the phone advice service for members, and member discounts from the ATA Webshop.Communications. ATA provides independent information on sustainable solutions though our magazines ReNew: technology for a sustainable future and Sanctuary: modern green homes, as well as our websites and online tools, conducting Sustainable House Day and Speed date a Sustainability Expert events, and promoting good news stories through mainstream and social media.Advocacy & Projects. ATA advocates in government and industry arenas for policies that support household sustainability. ATA conducts research into new and emerging technologies and associated consumer behaviours. We also provide consultancy services based on our technical expertise in energy, water, transport and communications.International Projects. ince 2003, ATA has been working with East Timorese communities to provide clean, renewable lighting and electricity. We have helped install solar lighting and power to more than 1,800 homes, community centres, orphanages, schools and hospitals in remote rural villages.
