Description of charity’s activities and outcomes
The Elizabeth Evatt Community Legal Centre Inc (EECLC) provides free legal information, advice and casework to the communities of the Bathurst, Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Oberon local government areas. In 2014-2015 EECLC provided legal information to 714 callers, generated 994 advices, and opened 165 cases to advocate on behalf of clients across a broad range of areas in family and civil law, including tenancy matters.EECLC also provided legal education sessions on a variety of topics ranging from domestic violence and family law, elder abuse, managing money and tenants rights.EECLC continued to coordinate the Cooperative Legal Services Delivery program in the Central Tablelands region this period, facilitating information sessions on the Australian legal framework and employment issues for recent migrants. EECLC also provided tenancy advice and advocacy service to people living in the Blue Mountains, and engaged in law reform activity around public housing at state and federal levels. EECLC commenced a new care and protection project this period, which provided legal assistance to people whose children are at risk of being removed from their care.EECLC client data indicates that we are continuing our important work of supporting the more socio-economically disadvantaged and marginalised people in our local communities to access the justice system.
