Description of charity's activities and outcomes
2016 saw a 9% increase in volunteer participation in Clean Up Australia Day ; 8% in the Great Northern Clean Up [north of the tropic of Capricorn] and 6% in Everyday Clean Up locations.Conscious that prevention is better than cure - we continue our active pursuit to prevent rubbish entering our environment via waste management reform.During the year we successfully worked alongside communities advocating for the introduction of a container refund scheme in NSW [announced to commence July 2017], Queensland and Western Australia [announced for 2018] . In 2017 we will continue to support communities as they lobby Victorian and Tasmanian MPs to come on-board.Clean Up also remains active in petitioning for a national ban on single use lightweight plastic bags - encouraging NSW, QLD, WA and Vic to join Tas, SA, NT and the ACT.Our actions have attracted a new major partner - Cleanaway; with which we share a passion to change attitudes about the viability of waste to resource.
