Description of charity’s activities and outcomes
In the reporting year 2014/15 the OpenAustralia Foundation improved peoples ability to participate directly and positively in political processes. Weve done this by connecting people with election candidates, helping them keep an eye on what their elected representatives say & how they vote, get information and have their say about planning decisions where they live, as well making it easier to ask for information which federal, state, and local government authorities hold on their behalf. We provide these services through,,, and, respectively.Helping free data for public reuse, our scraping platform has picked up over 2000 registered users who created more than 2300 scrapers. is the only scraping platform for open data and civic tech. This year we once again launched a major new project, They Vote For You. This allows people to see how their elected representatives vote on their behalf in our Federal Parliament. Weve peeled back the layers of stuffy jargon, arcane procedures and language so everyone can find out how their members and senators vote on issues that are important to them.Weve also expanded our freedom of information request site, Right To Know, to cover authorities in several states and territories, including local governments. This makes it much simpler for people to ask for information from hundreds of more authorities
