Description of charity’s activities and outcomes
During 2013/4, WCS has established the Hornsby Kuring-gai Women's Shelter, a 10 bed crisis accommodation facility for women without dependent children, and engaged with other communities in Shoalhaven, Newcastle, Greater Western Sydney, Sutherland and South-East Queensland interested in Shelter establishment, with a view to establishing up to 10 more shelters in the next 5-6 years. We have participated in raising the profile of issues to do with women's homelessness by working with peak organisations, State, Federal and Local Government and the media. We have undertaken extensive capacity building with communities to address and deal with issues of women's homelessness and domestic violence at the local community level.
