Description of charity’s activities and outcomes
The Principal Purpose of the AYCC is to protect Australias natural environment from climate change by educating young Australians to build a generation-wide movement of young people committed to taking action to reduce carbon pollution in their homes, schools TAFEs, Universities and communities.SEED: In FY2015 AYCC launched SEED, Australias first Indigenous youth climate network. SEED brings our educational and leadership programs to a wider demographic of young people, giving opportunities to young people often missed by youth development programs. SEED participants engage in sustainability projects in their communities to protect land, educate their peers and reduce pollution in their hometowns.National Summit: In February 2015, the AYCC hosted a National Leadership Summit in Sydney, NSW for 250 young participants. Participants received broad-based training to become educated and committed to protecting the natural environment and our climate. Switched on Schools:Switched on Schools is AYCCs high school program that has been running for three years across Australia. In FY15 AYCC has held 8 summitsengaging around 1000 students. At these summits students start sustainability projects such as reducing paper waste, planting vegetable gardens and trees, and putting solar panels on the roof, that they then take back and develop at their schools.AYCC volunteers also delivered presentations, which engaged 1000 students this year so far.
