Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
ABMDR is the only organisation responsible for recruitment of volunteer blood stem cell donors in Australia. Blood stem cell transplant is a medical treatment option for patients with blood and immune system disorders. We give patients the best chance of life by raising awareness and encouraging people to registering as a donor. Through its global connections, ABMDR allows patients to find suitably matched donors anywhere in the world. We provide systems and guidelines for the search, preparation and care of the donor through, and after, the donation process. ABMDR coordinates and administers financial assistance for Australian patients. The National Cord Blood Collection Network of public umbilical cord blood banks is administered by ABMDR. We support ethically approved research by providing the scientific community with access to blood stem cells.
