Description of charity's activities and outcomes
Wesley Mission Queensland is an integral part of The Uniting Church in Australia and works collaboratively with partners, government and other community organisations to meet the ever-changing needs of the community. Our mission is to walk alongside people in need offering care and compassion and promoting choice, independence and community wellbeing. We provide innovative residential aged care, in-home care, retirement living, disability accommodation support and employment, hardship relief and youth and family services. We have established more than 80 community based services to meet the needs of the communities in which we operate. With 2,365 employees and 1,539 volunteers, our work touches the lives of more than 100,000 people each year across more than 65 geographic locations. Our capacity to respond to people in need has never been greater. In 2016, we saw a growth in our core services with increased aged care places, the opening of new communities to support people living with mental health issues and complex disabilities and the development of Queenslands only childrens hospice, Hummingbird House.Beyond 2016, we will explore opportunities for diversifying our services through the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. We will continue to provide greater control and more choice for older people over the type of care and how that care is delivered through our Home Care Packages delivered on a Consumer Directed Care (CDC) basis. As a large and dynamic organisation, we focus on ensuring financial and environmental sustainability. This involves a wise use of the resources entrusted to Wesley Mission Queensland and a measured approach to service development and management. In 2016 Wesley Mission Queensland successfully received 22 non-government grants providing funding for vital resources. We will continue to hold events that raise awareness of the organisation, including the Spirit of Queensland Gala Dinner, the Hummingbird House Gala Ball and the opening of new services. We continue to engage the corporate community in the work of Wesley Mission Queensland with corporate volunteering, events and community fundraisers.Further details of our activities and achievements can be found in our 2016 annual report available on-line at
