Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
Complementing our direct first aid support to the community is St John's growing Community Education initiatives. Project Survival and Project Resilience are free first aid training seminars and workshops that aim to reach people who are most in need of these valuable, life saving skills but are unlikely to receive them. Our successful First Aid in Schools Program delivered another exemplary year with 11,901 students recipient of the program.We have now trained more than 40,000 students across the ACT.During 2016, St John ACT trialed a new harm minimisation program in Civic to support alcohol and drug affected young people on Friday and Saturday nights which aims to establish a sheltered facility staffed by suitably qualified teams from 10PM to 4AM each Friday and Saturday night where people could rest and sober up and access basic services including but not limited to hydration, first aid and telephones.
