Playground Ideas allows anyone in any country in the world to access our online resources that support them to create awesome play spaces for children, using locally sourced and recycled materials. We also travel overseas to manage playground design and builds with partner organisations, building the capacity of those organisations while there.
In 2019 we created the Nüdel Kart which is a portable playground we will deliver to disadvantaged communities around the world through a social enterprise and philanthropic donations.
Description of charity's activities and outcomes
- We provide free online resources to anyone, anywhere so that communities all over the world can build their own creative, stimulating play spaces for children using recycled and locally sourced materials.
- We create custom designs and manage playground builds with partner organisations, building their capacity and bringing play opportunities to children with little access to them.

Based on almost 60 years of longitudinal data, UNICEF identified 3 core needs for children to thrive particularly after war, disaster and the effects of poverty. Nutrition and love and care are well known but equally important yet currently under prioritised is stimulation. The combination of toxic stress and and a lack of stimulation can delay a child’s development by years. Because humans develop so rapidly in their early years this effect of trauma has a disproportionately large effect on that child and their capacities going into adulthood . It is now clear that this early development deficit leads to significant reductions in opportunity and capacity in adulthood. When viewing this at the macro scale, the loss of human potential, GDP, Costs to healthcare and so from a lack of stimulation factor in the $US billions of losses for nations. “Play in the early years of life has a profound and lasting influence on a child’s health, wellbeing, and long-term development. Studies have shown early play experiences to shape a child’s physical growth, capacity for learning, chances of finishing school, future employability, and even income.” (The Case for Play, PI, 2015)
The Nüdel Kart helps children get the stimulating play they need to build their brains and learn the critical skills required to thrive in the 21st century, especially those in disadvantaged environments.
