Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
VCS Ltd. delivers on its charitable purposes through three service functions, namely:VCS Pathology supports the cervical screening program: providing a high quality and efficient screening service for Victorian women at risk of cervical cancer. In 2016/17 VCS Pathology reported 287,545 Pap tests, representing 50.25% of the Pap smears taken in Victoria. VCS Pathology continued with the Compass Main Trial which is a clinical trial of up to 121,000 women, comparing 2.5-yearly Pap test screening with 5 yearly Human Papillomavirus (HPV) screening. It is the first large scale clinical trial internationally to assess these screening tests in an HPV vaccinated population and is being carried out by VCS in collaboration with Cancer Council NSW. The Main Trial recruitment was 66,443 at 30 June 17.In addition, VCS Pathology provides free educational sessions and resources for medical and health professionals to improve skills and knowledge about cervical screening, HPV and Chlamydia to General Practioners, Registrars and Nurses. Victorian Cervical Cytology Registry (VCCR) is a key component of the cervical screening program, recording results of most Pap smears performed in Victoria. The register contains a linked record for each woman, detailing Pap smear results and subsequent investigations. In 2016/17 432,408 Pap smear reminder letters were sent to Victorian women. VCCR provides a history link for laboratories and produces statistical information and reports on cervical screening. In addition, the South Australian Cervix Screening Program Register is administered by VCCR under contract to the South Australian Department of Health. Within this function, VCS Ltd. also delivers the participant follow up function for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program in Victoria. National HPV Program Register (NHVPR) plays an essential role in supporting effective delivery and completion of HPV vaccination courses and in monitoring and evaluating the HPV vaccination program. NHVPR records HPV vaccinations administered, undertakes follow up and reminder functions, conducts research and produces statistical information on the National HPV Vaccination Program. In 2016/17, around 994,099 immunisation records were added.
