Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
We have established a Volunteer Training Team led by an experienced Emergency Management practitioner and trainer to develop and implement our Volunteer training program. In so doing, we are ensuring our volunteers are engaged in best practice Emergency Management response activities. We have developed strong collaborative links with the South Australian Country Fire Service to enable our volunteers to take part in some CFS training, such as Map Reading and Introduction to using GPS. Our online training is being reformatted to become more user friendly. We engage with our hazard leader (Primary Industries and Regions South Australia - PIRSA) and fellow Participating Agencies in the South Australian State Emergency Management Plan (SEMP) with regular meetings regarding our collaborative response to an Emergency event in South Australia. During 2017 we were not required to respond to any bushfires or cropland fires, but we have given advice to assist other agencies, and the public, regarding individual animal protection requirements. We have given radio interviews and public seminars about animal emergency management, and are involved in research which benefits society broadly - by researching associated public health topics. As an Incorporated body we have been able to assist other smaller animal welfare agencies to obtain funding for their projects.
