Description of charity’s activities and outcomes
The Australian Young Christian Workers is a movement that strives to empower young people to be the change they want to see in the world. We do this by facilitating opportunities for knowledge and thoughts to be shared through discussion events, by running specific leadership training and by creating spaces for young people to gather with like-minded others in order to grow in community and in faith.Around the country, the Australian Young Christian Workers movement has groups that host services for disadvantaged youth, including the unemployed, asylum seekers and refugees and the homeless. By doing this, the young people involved gain skills that enable them to help and lead others, whilst the participants benefit from the services themselves.Another significant part of the Australian Young Christian Workers movement is the young people who gather in groups to reflect on their experiences. They use the methodology of the YCW to look at a situation and gain relevant facts, consider the contradictions between the current reality and the ideal situation and then take individual or community action to improve the outcomes for themselves and others. The YCW is always conscious of others in the community, the nation and the world. The movement upholds basic human rights, and educates for global awareness.
