Description of charity’s activities and outcomes
Womens Health (Womens Health Queensland Wide) is a health promotion charity which has been operating in Queensland for almost 30 years. The information provided is independent and encompasses a range of care options in a holistic way which emphasizes the value of a womans own experience.During 2014 Womens Health consolidated its role as a free information and referral service for all Queensland women by increasing the number of women reached (4,273 an increase on over 19% on 2013) and moving premises to ensure ongoing access and equity for women throughout Queensland.Womens Health staff maintained a health information line that provides woman-to-woman communication and free access to health information to assist women at pivotal times in their life including pregnancy, childbirth, puberty and menopause. This information and education is to assist women to make decisions to manage their health.A range of community health education and health promotion activities were planned and delivered to women and girls in both metropolitan and regional centres across the State. Stakeholder engagement has been maintained and expanded with Womens Health working with a range of other NGO and Government organisations to provide policy advice and referral pathway information on a range of womens health issues. Our quarterly health magazine Health Journey includes updates on recent research as well as health information on current issues of concern to women. This publication is distributed on a quarterly basis to a range of health professionals and health services throughout Queensland.Written resources and web information is available free-of-charge to everyone including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. A pilot program to provide health information to pregnant and parenting women from a number of specific cultural groups was successfully completed in 2014.
