Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
Through its weekly radio program, CASA both helps reinforce its community's Khmer identity and culture, and provides links with their homeland, whilst also helping incorporate their Australian identity.Whilst many mainstream agencies have made significant progress in becoming accessible to people from other cultural backgrounds, particularly refugees, they are still intimidating to people with poor English and limited experience of or trust in bureaucracy. Through its volunteer welfare support CASA helps individuals through the system, from filling in forms through to advocacy, negotiation or accompanying clients to eg appointments or court. In this way, community members know they will have culturally sensitive professional support in a crisis.
