Provide further details of the charity's international activities
Anglican Overseas Aid is an overseas relief and development agency of the Anglican Church of Australia. We work with Anglican and like-minded agencies to create and strengthen partnerships in developing countries to overcome poverty, injustice and disaster. We support our partners to assist marginalised communities to take control of their own lives and promote community well-being.
Whist we work mainly with Anglican organisations, all our work is carried out on a non-discriminatory basis.
Description of charity's activities and outcomes
Anglican Overseas Aid continued to implement its mandate as a professional international development agency. In 2017/2018 we supported 11 partners across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific to implement 11 community development projects in 9 countries ranging across broad areas of health, self-reliance, women's empowerment and disaster risk reduction.
We know that the people in the best position to make a difference are those who live and work in a community or are closely connected to them. This is why we work with partners who are a part of their own communities - they are trusted, share the same everyday challenges of the people they work to support, and are in a position to reach the most neglected and vulnerable.
We also responded to a number of emergency appeals including South Sudan Food Crisis; Ambae Volcano disaster in Vanuatu; displaced Rohingya refugees; conflicts in Syria and Northern Iraq; and Papua New Guinea earthquake.
Additionally , we worked with the Solomon Islands to develop a disaster risk and reduction program to help preparedness for future natural disasters.
