Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
Asthma Australia provides the framework and management structures for service delivery to people with asthma and their carers through the activities of its member Asthma Foundations. We work collaboratively to ensure our resources are used efficiently and effectively to help people with asthma improve their quality of life through initiatives that reduce the burden of disease. Our Strategic Framework for Asthma Research supports studies that will prevent, treat and cure asthma as well as foster innovation, including clinical and population health projects. Our programs provide accessible, affordable, evidence based services to improve the quality of life for those living with asthma. Through our 1800 Asthma Helpline, consumers can have their immediate asthma needs attended to. Ongoing connectivity can be established through Asthma Assist with follow up contact to check on progress. Through private donor investment the COACH program provides a structured, quality assured telehealth option for consumers to improve asthma health outcomes in conjunction with their health care provider. The Community Support Program (CSP) offers group asthma education and resources for people with asthma and their carers and for health professionals. Referral pathways are built into the CSP, establishing a more supportive cycle of care for our consumers. The Asthma Child and Adolescent Program (ACAP) trains school staff to provide more supportive environments for students with asthma. Student information session increase understanding of asthma and how to help a mate having trouble breathing. Asthma management information for parents is promoted through school communities. ACAP also has a focus on young people with targeted resources, a designated Facebook page and an app being developed for release in early 2017. Consumers now seek information through online options, reducing our carbon footprint substantially. Our national website brings all Foundation websites under the Asthma Australia brand. An Asthma App provides a teaching tool for health professionals and helps consumers increase their adherence to medication. Social media is a popular format and includes targeted campaigns and surveys. All programs are informed by independent evaluations to explore better ways to be effective with our resources and services.Further efficiencies through our process to establish a single national asthma entity for Australia combines the work of Asthma Australia and the National Asthma Council. Together we have drafted the 2020 National Asthma Strategy, outlining priority reforms and identifying target populations to ensure our combined services reach out to people and communities across Australia with limited access.Link to Annual Reporthttps://www.asthmaaustralia.org.au/ArticleDocuments/1089/2015-16_AA%20Annual%20Report-SWC%20FINAL.pdf.as
