Description of charity's activities and outcomes
Friends of Nepal Australia Inc works towards providing sustainable development projects in Nepal. Due to our smaller size, we focus on projects that maximises the output of our fundraising activities conducted here in Western Australia. We aim towards implementing projects that impacts larger community with the limited about of funds that we raise. One such project is our collaboration with local NGO RIDS-Nepal. RIDS Nepal continued to be our major beneficiary and Alex has continued to supply us with comprehensive and informative feedback with his statistical information, reports and photos of the projects. His enthusiasm and passion spurs us on to continue our support. We have strengthened our partnership with RIDS-Nepal in providing basic facilities such as toilets, smokeless stoves, solar electricity and clean drinking water to remote villages in Humla and Jumla district in Nepal. Last financial year we were able to contribute AUD3000 for the project.Last financial year was also an important year with the funds raised for rebuilding after catastrophic earthquake in Nepal was disbursed to local organisation for project implementation. We also collaborated in a Play Therapy project facilitated by Hillary Wallace. It helped the victims of earthquake, esp. children, in overcoming the grief and trauma during the aftermath of the earthquake. This was also possible due to our fundraising activities and generous supporters.Other events this year included:Inaugural Kite Festival Kite Festival held on the foreshore at South Perth in October, which was a great family day of kite flying, wonderful food and impromptu music and dancing. This event showcased the culture of Nepal and bringing people of diverse cultural background together to celebrate our community spirit. East Meets West High Tea - held at the West Coast Steiner School, showcasing the gourmet delights of Eastern and Western cuisine and Nepali dancing. Movie Afternoon In September we spent the afternoon watching the movie Everest which was held to fundraise for our projects in Nepal esp. Family of 4 project for RIDS Nepal.Photo shoot session Suraj Poudel organised another family opportunity to shoot professional photos for the family album.Momo Eating competition Held and Supported by the Cannington General Store, a fun excuse to indulge a plate of momo. This was a communal program for some fun. The proceedings of which was donated to us.Spring Festival held at the Beeliar Community Centre as part of a Multicultural Festival in support of the Earthquake in Nepal. Again, an excuse to cook, eat and sell momos and dance.Although we feel that this has been a very quiet year for Friends of Nepal, we have certainly had a diverse program and ventured beyond our normal scope of activities and support base, hopefully this will reap rewards in the future.
