Description of charity's activities and outcomes:
Our main objective is to care for the families of ADF members of those who have given their life or health in serving their country from the Port Macquarie Hastings Council area who range in age of 4 to 100. We ensure we have sufficient funds, staff and volunteers to offer support physically, emotionally and financially. We target moral and physical support and companionship to widows and families without close family support. We assist widows and families in their dealings with Federal and State Government agencies including the Department of Veterans' Affairs following the death or incapacitation of the Veteran. We provide a means of overcoming social isolation by regular visits by staff and volunteers, regular phone contact, regular functions and outings and support beneficiary driven social groups, e.g. Laurel Clubs, Legacy Lovelies (normally Vietnam era) and the new ADF Partners support group. Some beneficiaries choose to volunteer in our Op Shop for the social support. We provide financial support to those in need, either by short term loans or grants. We provide assisted housing via our Legacy units in Port Macquarie (26) and Laurieton (12). Run a Legacy Assist Programme (LAP) which steps in and provides support services until government support is available, e.g. shopping, domestic cleaning, medical transport, escorted medical visits by trained staff. Support financially younger beneficiaries when and how required e.g. school uniforms and school costs, assist with braces, university costs and social activities such as camps and access to sporting activities.
