Summary of activities

Bats Qld is a non profit, self funded solely volunteer run organization that provides a public health service to the community through the 24/7 rescue of injured Flying Foxes/Microbats. Bats Qld rehabilitates, raises and releases flying foxes/microbats back into the environment to continue their important roles as Australia's only long distance pollinators of our eucalyptus forests and natural pest control (microbats). Education is also and important part of what we do and we attend many council events/festivals/animal expos during the year to raise awareness in the community about the importance of this keystone species to the Australian environment. We liaise with local, state and federal councils, EHP and other wildlife groups and environmental organizations. We have developed a syllabus subject for primary and secondary schools as part of our education program which is available via our website www.batsqld.org.au. We are in liaison with local councils and landcare groups with the implementation of flying fox foraging and roosting habitat revegetation via the 25th Anniversary Landcare Grant. More education is needed to dispel myths about bats represented in the media. Our focus is positive and factual information about this misunderstood Native Australian Mammal.
