The Treasurer, the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, issued a media release late last week about further updates to the government’s JobKeeper payments. The clarification will have some impact on whether certain charities can or cannot access the payments.

Our COVID-19 webpage has been updated with the information. We will continue to update this page as more information becomes available.

Pocket Money Podcast

I was recently interviewed for an episode of the Pocket Money podcast on finder.com.au looking at where charity donations actually go.

(Virtually) meeting with the sector

I always enjoy meeting with charities and hearing their stories. It is interesting to hear how the ACNC can further support the charity sector.

Given the current circumstances, I might not be able to travel and meet with charities as much, but it is still important to check-in with the sector.

Last week, I met (virtually) with 10 charities to discuss the impact COVID-19 is having on their operations.

One of the main things raised by the charities I spoke to, was the need to find ways of diversifying their income sources going forward.

The charities also spoke in depth about pivoting their programs and activities.

It was wonderful to speak to the charities and hear about the ways they are adapting to the global pandemic.

I look forward to meeting more charities in the future, both virtually and in-person when the restrictions are lifted.

Have your say

Equity Trustees and the Xfactor Collective have launched RESET 2020 - a free online support program for social purpose organisations.

To map the needs of the sector and help shape RESET 2020's content, social sector organisations are invited to have their say through a survey.

If you are interested in having your say, you can find out more here.

Best wishes,
The Hon Dr Gary Johns
