On 20 February 2015, the Northern Territory Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services declared a state of emergency for parts of the Top End hardest hit by Severe Tropical Cyclone Lam.

Members of the public can find registered charities helping those affected by Cyclone Lam by searching the Charity Register at acnc.gov.au/findacharity.

The declared area includes the communities of Milingimbi, Ramingining, Galiwinku, Gapuwiyak and Mapuru Outstation.

The minister's full media release can be viewed on the Northern Territory Government's website.

The declaration and impact on areas where the cyclone resulted in widespread damage meet the requirements of the deductible gift recipient (DGR) category 'Australian disaster relief fund'.

Funds established for the relief of people in communities affected by the cyclone can apply for endorsement under this DGR category.

For more information on DGR endorsement, visit the Australian Taxation Office website at ato.gov.au.

The ACNC and the Australian Taxation Office will work together to streamline applications to register new charities set up to help those affected by Cyclone Lam. For more information on registering a charity with the ACNC, visit acnc.gov.au/register.
