Summary of activities

The principal activities of AGEC are to act as an independent, non-government, national body driving gender equality across all sectors of the community in Australia including by advocating for and promoting gender equality in Australia, promoting research in relation to gender equality and providing a forum for broad-based consultation and collaboration in the community. The focus of the 30 June 2019 financial year has been to build AGEC’s membership and to launch AGEC publicly. AGEC developed its website to provide access to key information and resources on gender equality and undertook its first national campaign ItsTime through a video highlighting the facts on gender equality in Australia. During the year AGEC also commenced public fundraising activities via its website through annual subscriptions and donations from individuals and organisations. AGEC held its second Annual Forum in April 2019 which focused on developing a formal manifesto for AGEC and its members, which was launched in October 2019. Key initiatives during the year included – • Participating in the Deputy Prime Minister’s Roundtable on Women in Aviation resulting in the announcement of new funding initiatives • Release of the cutting-edge research “Hands Up for Gender Equality” revealing the powerful influence of gender norms in our school system on career choices of boys and girls and national publicity campaign • Providing information resources and support to our Member Organisations, including a calendar of events and expanding our library of gender equality resource materials • Production of a Vox Pops series (thanks to Fancy Films) capturing the reactions of Australians from all walks of life to the inequities that women still face in our workplace and community • Joint campaign with the ABC News team to boost women’s voices in the media attracting 4,000 new female commentators in all fields of work and life
