Summary of activities

Down Syndrome Victoria (DSV) works alongside people with Down syndrome and their families, so that they reach their full potential and live the life they choose. Established as a not-for-profit organisation in 1978, DSV is the statewide peak membership organisation representing people with Down syndrome and their families. DSV delivers its mission by: •providing support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families based on a model of empowerment; •being a pre-eminent source of quality information and resources; •sharing knowledge and experience to build the capacity of families and professionals to support individuals with Down syndrome and ensure they meet their full potential; •and via systemic advocacy. DSV provides a whole-of-life service offering personal support and information to families particularly new parents after the birth of a baby with Down syndrome; advocacy, information and support for individuals with Down syndrome; peer support groups around the State (MyTime and NDIS and Me groups); an Education Support service to assist students with Down syndrome and their teachers in mainstream schools; Club21 – a peer support and social groups for adults with Down syndrome; an annual Family Fun Day and other events; education and information sessions for families; information and professional development for health and education professionals; a regular member journal `Voice’ and subscriber enewsletter `DNews’; and a library of Down syndrome specific resources
