Summary of activities

The Alternative Technology Association (ATA) is a not-for-profit organisation that enables,represents and inspires people to live sustainably in their homes and communities. Established in1980, the ATA provides expert, independent advice on sustainable solutions for the home tohouseholds, government and industry.We have helped thousands of households save money, reduce their environmental footprint andmake their homes more comfortable. ATA is well respected in our sector for our technicalexpertise, communications capacity and an informed membership.The ATA delivers in four main areas: Membership services. ATA has 14 active branches across Australia and over 6000 memberswho are actively creating a sustainable future in their own homes and communities. The ATAprovides an online and over the phone advice service for members, and member discounts fromthe ATA Webshop. Communications. ATA provides independent information on sustainable solutions though ourmagazines ReNew: technology for a sustainable future and Sanctuary: modern green homes, aswell as our websites and online tools, conducting Sustainable House Day and Speed date aSustainability Expert events, and promoting good news stories through mainstream and socialmedia. Advocacy & Projects. ATA advocates in government and industry arenas for policies thatsupport household sustainability. ATA conducts research into new and emerging technologies andassociated consumer behaviours. We also provide consultancy services based on our technicalexpertise in energy, water, transport and communications. International Projects. ince 2003, ATA has been working with East Timorese communities toprovide clean, renewable lighting and electricity. We have helped install solar lighting and powerto more than 1,800 homes, community centres, orphanages, schools and hospitals in remote ruralvillages.
