Summary of activities

Scarf's purpose is to build the skills, knowledge, networks and confidence of young people seeking protection and those from from refugee and migrant backgrounds who face barriers to work. We partner with hospitality businesses and provide hands-on training, mentoring and paid work experience. 2016/17 activities included:- Ran three 10-week seasonal programs, each providing trainee places to eight young people facing barriers to employment (eg: Autumn Scarf 17 http://bit.ly/2nr8IJq)- Provided hands-on, industry relevant training in: customer service skills, coffee-making, beer education, wine education, bar basics, cocktail making, resume writing, interview practice, and formal restaurant service/order-taking- Provided our trainees with real, paid work experience (trainees are paid the Restaurant Industry Award) and mentoring from hospitality professionals during Scarf Dinners at The Robert Burns Hotel, The Lincoln and The Grace Darling- Provided employment mentoring and job-seeking support to graduates; 70% of Scarf graduates in jobs six months after finishing the program- Ran our second Do More Than Dine fundraiser in May 2017, hosted by Matt Preston, which raised $56,565 (http://bit.ly/2npmn4q)- Ran Do More Than Drink fundraising campaign in Dec 2016, raising $20,757 (http://bit.ly/2DO4YZi) and providing work experience to 8 trainees- Conducted thorough program evaluation led by Louise Greenstock leading to this series of videos: https://vimeo.com/223704779
