Summary of activities

As it has done since its inception in 1992, Planet Ark has continued to work with individuals, community groups, governments, organisations and businesses throughout FY 2018. Our education and behaviour change campaigns and programs aim to: promote sustainable resource use, encourage a low carbon lifestyle, and connect people with nature. Highlights of the year in each of these three areas include: our installation of commercial solar under the Planet Ark Power program, which makes it possible for businesses and other enterprises including schools to install solar with no upfront costs and ongoing savings on electricity bills; the Packaging Recyclability Evaluation Portal (PREP), which Planet Ark developed in conjunction with GreenChip to help packaging designers improve the recyclability of their packaging; in conjunction with APCO, launching the Australian Recycling Label which makes it easier for consumers to know how to dispose of packaging waste; promoting the circular economy though our Make it Recycled campaign, which encourages the recycling of used office paper, and buying it back as a recycled product; our Make It Wood campaign continued to promote the use of sustainably sourced wood, and we continue to work with local councils to adopt a wood encouragement policy; enhancing our environment and connecting people with nature with over 200,000 people taking part in planting over one million native trees, grasses, shrubs and edible plants in Toyota's National Tree Day; and also educating Australian businesses and the wider community on what and where to recycle via our information services including RecyclingNearYou, Business Recycling, National Recycling Week and Cartridges for Planet Ark. These services enjoyed over three million visits across the year. Motivating individuals and companies to recycle over 40 million printer cartridges, via Cartridges 4 Planet Ark since inception.
