The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) is pleased to announce that charity data collected by the ACNC is now available to approved researchers through the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ (ABS) Business Longitudinal Analysis Data Environment (BLADE).
BLADE is a rich economic data asset that combines information from taxation, trade and intellectual property datasets with ABS survey data to provide insights into the Australian economy and business performance over time.
The inclusion of ACNC data will enable researchers to combine charity sector information with existing BLADE datasets, supporting deeper analysis of how charities operate, contribute to the community and evolve over time.
ACNC Commissioner Sue Woodward AM welcomed this news.
“The ACNC is committed to maximising the use of the data we collect,” Ms Woodward said.
“Through initiatives such as our Charity Data Hub, we already make a wide range of charity information publicly available. Making ACNC data accessible through BLADE will give researchers new opportunities to explore the charity sector’s contribution to Australian communities and the economy.
“This will support better research, stronger evidence-based policy and a greater understanding of the important work charities do every day."
Researchers interested in accessing BLADE can apply to the ABS. For more information, visit the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.
