Changes to disclosure of political expenditure for registered charities

Changes to Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Regulation 2013 (the ACNC Regulation) will require the ACNC Commissioner to publish and maintain information on the Charity Register about where to find details of electoral expenditure and political donations of registered charities.

When a registered charity is required to report expenditure to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC), and the AEC publishes that expenditure, the ACNC will be required to publish where the details of that expenditure can be found.

From 30 July 2021 the ACNC will provide links on the Charity Register listing of affected registered charities to the AEC’s Transparency Register that discloses details of political donations and electoral expenditure.

The changes will have no effect on what registered charities are required to submit to the ACNC.
