Treasury is seeking feedback on proposed changes to the law that will allow the ACNC to share more information about how we regulate charities.

Under the proposed changes, the ACNC would be able to publish more information on the Charity Register about our investigations and other regulatory activities.

For example, if the ACNC revokes a charity’s registration, we could explain why the decision was made. Additionally, if the ACNC takes enforcement action against a charity, we would also be required to provide reasons for that action when it is in the public interest.

The proposed changes build on recent amendments that allow the ACNC to confirm when it is investigating a charity. They also form part of the 2023–24 Budget measure aimed at increasing transparency about ACNC regulatory activities.

Review the proposed charity secrecy reforms and share your feedback on Treasury's website.

Submissions close on 2 October 2026.
