The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) is warning that more than 70 charities are at risk of losing their registration, as they have failed to submit two or more Annual Information Statements (AIS).
The ACNC has issued a public notice advising charities they have until 15 October 2025 to submit their overdue Annual Information Statements, or their registration may be revoked.
‘Registered charities need to submit an Annual Information Statement each year’, said ACNC Assistant Commissioner, Cate Bennett.
'Not only is it a legislative requirement, set out in the ACNC Act, but it’s also an important opportunity for charities to share details about their work and achievements.’
Information provided in the AIS is publicly available on the ACNC Charity Register, which received more than 19 million clicks last year.
‘Charities that maintain their reporting to us demonstrate accountability — not just to the ACNC, but to donors, beneficiaries, and the broader community.’
The ACNC issued the public notice following repeated attempts to try and contact the 77 charities directly.
‘Charities may have changed their address and contact details, or stopped operating and failed to notify us,’ she said.
‘It’s not too late for those charities listed to act. If they contact the ACNC and submit their outstanding reports, they can maintain their registration and continue to benefit from Commonwealth charity tax concessions.’
Ms Bennett said that while the ACNC recognises some charities may have ceased operations or merged, it is essential that they inform us of such changes.
