Listen to this article:

Charities that report to the ACNC on a financial year basis – 1 July to 30 June – must submit their 2026 Annual Information Statement (AIS) by 31 January 2027.

The ACNC Charity Portal is where you complete your AIS, so it’s important to check you have access.

Someone at your charity who already has a Charity Portal account must first add you as a Responsible or Authorised Person, and they must provide your unique email address. Then you can create an account with the same unique email address.

Do not use a shared or generic charity email address for your Portal account, and do not share accounts or use the same login details of someone who has left the charity. Having your own Portal account helps ensure security and accuracy of your charity's records.

If no one at your charity can access the Portal, contact the ACNC on 13 22 62 between 1pm and 5pm (Melbourne time) for help.

Case study

A new treasurer joined a school committee and was preparing to submit the AIS.

He logged in to the Charity Portal but couldn’t see his charity, and someone else’s name showed in the top right corner. He contacted the ACNC Advice team on 13 22 62 for help.

The Advice team found he was signing in using a generic treasurer email address (treasurer@charity.org.au) that had previously been used by another committee member who had left. They explained that each Responsible Person must have their own Portal account linked to an email address that is unique to them.

After creating an account with his own email address (john.smith@charity.org.au), the treasurer was able to log in and see his charity and could submit the 2026 AIS.

Remember: everyone who needs access to the Charity Portal should have their own account and use a unique email address. Using a generic email address can create access issues when committee members or office bearers change.
