Signing up to the ACNC Charity Portal and accessing the ACNC Charity Portal

Start from the ACNC home page. Click on the ‘Charity Portal log in’ button located at the top right-hand side of the screen.

Click on the hyperlink 'Sign up now' which is located below the 'Sign in' button. Enter your own personal email address. Then press the button directly below titled ‘Send verification code’. Now check your own email account for the verification code. The email will come from the sender ‘Microsoft on behalf of ACNC’ and has the title ‘ACNC account email verification code’. If you can’t find the email, check your spam or junk folders.

Copy the verification code from the email and paste it into the verification code box on the ACNC sign in page. The box is located below your email address. Then press the ‘Verify code’ button which is directly below.

If you get the error message ‘That code has expired. Please request a new code,’ simply press the ‘Send new code’ button and retrieve the new code from your email account. Then repeat the previous two steps.

You are now up to creating a password and confirming it. Passwords must be at least 10 characters long. They must be a mix of capital and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters. You can type special characters by holding down the ‘shift’ button on your keyboard while typing numbers.

Once you have typed a password into the ‘New Password’ box, you will need to type it again exactly the same into the ‘Confirm New Password’ box. The system will tell you if your password meets the character length and character diversity rules. The system will also tell you if the two passwords you typed match. If the password does not meet the rules or the passwords don’t match, have another try.

Once your password meets the system rules and they match. Type your surname, your last name or family name, into the second last box. Then type your first name, your given name, into the final box and press the 'Create' button. You are now logged into the Portal.

You should now see your name on the top right-hand side of the screen. If you see someone else’s name, call the ACNC Advice Line during operating hours on 13 22 62.

Below the title ‘My charities’, you should find the names of the charity or charities you are linked to. If one is not listed, ask someone from the charity with access to the Portal to add you. If they don’t know how, ask them to watch the video ‘Adding Responsible or Authorised People’.

If no one else from the charity has access to the charity record through the Portal, send an email from the charity’s Address For Service to advice@acnc.gov.au asking that you are added to the charity record. The information we require in that email is:

  • full name
  • the email address used to sign up to the Portal
  • charity name, and
  • charity ABN.

Please note that this will add you as an Authorised Person only. If you are a Responsible Person, once you have access, you will need to add yourself as a Responsible Person in the Portal. To do this, see the video ‘Adding Responsible or Authorised People’
