Elections spark interest in the rules around advocacy from charities and from the public and can create unnecessary concern for some charities.  

The ACNC has welcomed submissions as part of a consultation on advice relating to two charity subtypes — Public Benevolent Institutions and Health Promotion Charities.

Charities are being urged to go to the hub for highly practical guidance and tips to help make the process of completing the 2022 AIS simple, and to find out about some recent changes to reporting obligations. 

Red tape cuts for all Australian charities that conduct fundraising are now in place, with the latest reform now taking effect in Queensland. 

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission has launched free online short courses to support good governance in the nation’s charity sector.

The Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP has today announced the appointment of Ms Deborah Jenkins as the acting Commissioner of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

Sharing with Friends became a registered charity last year. President Susan Davies said it decided to apply for registration because it will rely on philanthropy to fulfil its aims.  

Charity representatives, advisers to the charity sector and people with relevant experience are invited to join the ACNC Consultation Panel. 

Following recent floods in parts of NSW, now declared a disaster zone, the ACNC is granting affected charities an automatic extension on their annual reporting deadlines.

Directors  of  charities that are  companies  or  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations  must  apply for  a director identification number (director ID).
